Are You Eligible For GA Disability Benefits?

What Is Georgia Disability?

If you are a Georgia resident who formerly worked and found you are not out of work due to a disability, you may be eligible for Georgia disability benefits through the federal government.  When you were actively working you probably paid into the Social Security system each week through payroll deductions.  These deductions might have made you eligible to receive SSI or SSDI.  According to the Social Security Administration, there are well over seven million people who get benefits because of a disability and the average monthly payment for a disability is around $1063.00.

If you want to apply Georgia disability through the Social Security Administration at http://www.ssa.gov/atlanta/southeast/ga/georgia.htm, there are a few things you will need to understand.

First, you have to understand the definition of a disabling condition as it is defined by the SSA.  In order to get benefits from the SSA your condition must be long-term and/or permanent.  By long term, this means your condition is expected to last at least twelve months or more.

Georgia disability benefits are something you should apply for with immediacy since it can take a lengthy time for your application to be processed and for your case to be activated.  It can take thirty to one hundred and fifty days to get a case approved or denied.  If denied, you will have the right to file an appeal that can cause your case activation, once approved, to take even longer.  Sometimes the approval process is fast tracked through compassionate allowance considerations.  This means that the SSA gives special considerations and allowances for people with certain types of serious medical conditions like cancer; such a case might speed the approval process to as little as ten days time.  The sooner one applies for benefits the sooner he or she will be on the track to getting an approval.
